    Looking for Bauer&Hauschildt Shipmates

Was working from 1971 until 1980 for Bauer&Hauschildt hamburg on a number of ships and are looking for any german shipmates who sailed with me. The ships where.
    MV Assel 1971-73
    MV Estetal 1973-74
MV Heinrich Hauschildt 1974-75 Captain Herman (Obelix) Unger. We where building the breakwater for the port of Hirtshals Denmark, self loading granite blocks from sweden and laying them in the water by bord crane to build up the breakwater, many happy times there with a great skipper and crew. Party in Hirtshals every other night.
MV Gertrud Hauschildt 1978-79 and again 1979-80 Captain Eggerstedt.
MV Estedeich (last ship) 02.04.80 until 11.10.80 Captain Werner Lengin
Those days the deck crew was mostly turkish and I was the only german on deck on most of the ships. Captain, chiefmate and engineer where german as well, on the smaller ships I was doing the engine as well apart from being in charge of the turkish crew. Thanks

When did this massive change in crew take place and what were the actual reasons? My dad first went to sea on coasters in 1966 and said that all the crews were German then and later towards the late 60s there started to be some Greeks and Turks but if varied from ship to ship and they would rather have German AB's if they could. One of my dad's ship was the K.Roennfeldt and the owner captain experimented with some Greeks in the late 60s that the managing company (Peter Doehle) was trying to push on to him as a cheaper option and after a small engine room fire that saw all the German crew putting the fire out and it later emerged that the Greeks were all standing by the lifeboat with their kit bags, they were all fired and replaced with Germans again. Another ship he was on at around the same time and until 1973 was the Martina B and he said that always sailed with a full German crew, again an owner Captain under the management of Dohle. He then came ashore and lived in England after he met my mum and later in about 1982 became friendly with the Captain of the Saphir of Transreeder Schiffarhts and decided to take a job with that company and despite wanting to be on the Saphir, worked on the Rubin and the Smaragd but by that time he was the only German AB, while the rest of them were Spanish but it wasn't because the company wouldn't employ Germans, they snapped his arm off to get him to work for them.
Many years later in 2000 when I finished school and applied to every British shipping company, only to be declined by all of them because they only employed Polish or Filipino deck crew, my dad made a phone call to Reederei Hammann & Prahm in Wischhafen and the owner gave me a chance and took me on. My first ship, the Selene Prahm had a German captain and mate and also one German AB which surprised me, the other AB and cook were Filipinos. I was always very impressed that he gave me a chance and didn't prevent me from going to sea because my nationality wasn't "convenient" whereas companies in the UK just didn't want to know.
I doubt there are any German AB's on coasters these days, but perhaps I'm wrong?

      Hallo bosun 1949

I`m working from 1979 to the 17 May 1988 for Bauer&Hauschildt.I start there my life as a seaman until I get my license as master. Most of the time I worked on Buxtehude II(Chartername Aros Timber Bremer Saturn) and on Stoller Grund.I was 1984 together with Werner Lengin just after he lost the Estedeich in Asian Waters. At that time he live in Frankfurt and he was in bad condition because of the accident of Estedeich.Later i have heard he was mate on Este Submerger when the ship was under Bolten Company.I know also Captain Eggerstedt I think he stop seamans life about 1982/3 because he was sick. The time I work there we have only turkish deck Crew.I stay by Bauer&Hauschildt until the end of the Company 1988,the bigger ships take the Bolten Company, the smaller was sold all over the world.May be you can remember the cook Willy Jandl from Austria who build the Modell ships,he was also on Gertrud Hauschildt.I worked with him 3 years together on Buxtehude II.
