The Danish merchant fleet has grown by 13 percent since the turn of the year and, with its 13.8 million gross tons, it's never been greater. This is shown by a new report from the Danish Shipowners Association.
"It is a very positive development, which shows that Denmark is a very attractive place to conduct shipping business from, just as the Danish flag is attractive to operate under," says Anne H. Steffensen, Managing Director of the Danish Shipowners Association.

The Danish-flagged merchant fleet counts 647 ships, and more are likely on the way. Recently, the company Ultragas established in Denmark and will reportedly have a new series of ships in the Danish International Ship Register.

"We see that foreign shipping companies choose to settle in Denmark, doing part of their business here and have their ships under the Danish flag. I see this as an endorsement of Danish maritime skills and the overall maritime package, you get in Denmark, including our competitive environment," says Anne H. Steffensen.

Denmark now ranks as the 14th largest flag State in the world.
