?Bamsa Dan? was built solely for a 10 Year bareboat charter to Kongelige Gr?nlandske Handel (KGH) immediately from the very beginning of her life for the trade between Gr?nland ? Danmark.
That?s why she did not have the JL-logo on her funnel at her delivery. In stead the JL-office flag was hoisted up onto the top of the tallest of hers mast?s and the flag of UN was hoisted in the very front of her bow. She was the first and only ship ever to have the UN-flag hoisted on a JL-ship when launched.
She was baptized by Hannelore Lauritzen (Knud Lauritzens 2. wife) ? The traditional champagne in a bottle was replaced at the baptizing of this ship with a porcelain bear from Royal Copenhagen Factory, which was filled with water from some melted ice-chunks from the inland-ice on Greenland.
1973: 02-10= Maiden voyage from Aalborg to Nuuk, (Godthaab)
1976: 18-02= Company name changed to J. Lauritzen A/S, K?benhavn.
1983: January= Bareboat-charter extended for another 10 years.
1983: 17-03= Renamed ?Nivi Ittuk?. Homeport: Aalborg.
1989: In January she was rebuilt by Danyard in Frederikshavn. A container crane was fitted upon her deck. .
