THALA DAN at Aalborg Yard in 1973

Aalborg Yard A/S was owned by the shipping company J. Lauritzen A/S, Copenhagen. They also owned Helsing?r Yard A/S, Aarhus Yard A/S and Frederikshavn Yard....
That explains a little about one the reasons why a lot of the JL-ships were built by these four yards and why these four yards did so much maintenance-work, developing work, repair-jobs and re-buildings on so many of the ships from J. Lauritzen...
A lot of the Danish shipping companies had their own shipyards too to ensure that they always could place an order on the yard for immediate action... No matter if it was repairs, rebuilding's or newbuilding's or whatever.... They did not have to wait for their turn on their own yards....

and now these days, everybody has to be very nice to the Chinese, but nevertheless getting problems when drydocking of box-ships of the last generations is nescessary Like CMA CGM LAPAROUSE some years ago at Hamburg....
Best wishes, stay safe and take care

                  Thala & nella dan

Here seen in 1982 laying in the harbour of Aalborg, (The Copenhagen Terminal).

Still beautiful and well kept ships.
A sailor in JL should not be lazy, but if he was a normal working sailor he couldn't find a better company to sail in...
Welfare of any kind for ALL the crew was routine for the owners... Never a problem with costing's.... They were light-years ahead of any other Danish company in the business.
So their crews were always very very loyal to the company.
                  Enough for now
                  Kind Regards
