    Lauenburg/Elbe

Lauenburg is a small town on the River Elbe, approx. 40 km south-east of Hamburg. The port is small, but a ferry-service to Hamburg is operating and the Paddle-steam vessel KAISER WILHELM, built 1899/1900 is sailing from her homeport Lauenburg on the River Elbe. The shipyard Hitzler is certainly well known to some members, as ships have been built for Arklow Shipping (1990) and Union Transport in 1980

More information can be seen here:

The Martha Hammann, which I had the pleasure of sailing on for a few months was also built there by Hitzler. Do sea going ships sail that far up the Elbe or does that all stop at Hamburg?

      Lauenburg/Elbe

      Hi Jordan,
on the site of Hitzler shipyard their is also a picture of MARTHA HAMMAN, but am not sure how they got to Hamburg, due to the bridges.....
Ron will know for sure because he had the "pleasure" to sail down from Lauenburg to Hamburg with one of the Arklow vessels....

Some more highway bridges have been added in recent years, only inland vessels are able to get there....
Best wishes, stay safe and take care
