    At Wapping on the Thames on 27/8/1961, a ship that refused to die more than once!

    PORTIA,1911,- A.Kirsten, DEU Hamburg. 1189grt x Henry Koch, Luebeck (208) as PORTIA for A. Kirsten, Hamburg.

    Subsequent History:8/1914 - 8/1918 served as hospital ship in Imperial German Navy.8/1921 to Shipping Controller, U.K., returned to owners 10/1921.1928 Hamburg-Amerika Linie.1934 reverted to A. Kirsten.9 - 12/1940 Kriegsmarine as hospital ship, 1940 renamed LAVINIA.Mined and sunk on 24/4/1941 off Kiel lightship, raised 12/6/1942.14/10/1942 scuttled by Danish resistance at Aalborg while under repair, raised again.9/10/1944 damaged by air raid and burned out at Hamburg.25/4/1945 scuttled as a blockship in the Elbe, refloated 10/1948, returned to service 4/1949.1949 Hamburg-London Linie A. Kirsten & Co.

    Disposal Data:Broken up at Willebroek 2/1962 after a remarkable 51 years and still with her first owner!
