Colchester in March 2009 a sad picture from all who remember this small port in its hayday I for one would love a ?1 for every ton of beans /peas /tic beans ect loaded for inland Holland and Belgium

Hi Malc indeed fond memories, I've searched high and low for photo I took ard '86 of the quays, ships stem to stern from the swinging basin up to King Edward Quay,50 pct with derricks swung outboard Do you remember Mike Elms from Coldock the manager Cheers Gareth

Hi Malc,

Fond memories of Colchester as a port and many trips as a boy on the train from Harwich to Colchester (Hythe) to see the coasters stem to stern along the quay. I have some photos I will upload and have some uploaded on "Shipspotting.com" If you would like to see them

Hi gareth long time no hear.I remember those days also i can remember puffing pete from crescent calling us at yarmouth when i was mate on subro Venture telling us colchester is full no berths are available so we must anchor at brightlingsea on a friday night to await a berth monday YEA RIGHT pete we said we will await your call !!! so as soon as there was a damp patch in the river we sloped up to colchester found a small gap and tied up and went home even before the deputy harbour master peter powel came on duty and he used to be early..Regards Mike i think i remember him we used to load out of coldock quite a lot and discharge soya on king edward Quay.

Thanks very much for you kind comment. This was taken Christmas Eve 1987.The ships are Alice Pg, Union Pearl. Woolacombe,UnionSaturn,Pamead,Anglian Trader and Jubilence.
